RESCUE OF A WOMAN AND HER CHILD UNDER DISTRESS

In the month of July, ‘Operation Muskaan’ was launched in the U.T. of Puducherry.  As a part of the operation, public places like Railway Station, Bus Stand, Beach, Temples, Roadside platforms, etc., were visited by a dedicated team of CB CID officers of Puducherry to rescue abandoned street children.  During the operation, 13 abandoned Street children were rescued.  After producing them before the Child Welfare Committee, they were lodged at Child Care Home.  The parents of the children were traced and they were handed over to their parents through Child Welfare Committee.

During the operation on 18.07.2015 at about 12.30 hrs, near the platform of Subbiah Salai, near Fire Service Station, Puducherry the CB CID Police team noticed a female, aged about 20 years behaving in a disorderly manner with a 5 month old female baby.  The CB CID Police team rescued both the Woman and Child and produced before the Child Welfare Committee, Puducherry.  The said women stated to be one Sunala speaking Pijapuri language (address and place of origination not known) was lodged at the Fathima Convent, Puducherry and the child was handed over at Cluny Sisu Bhavan, Puducherry as directed CWS, Puducherry.

Since, the woman was behaving in a disorderly manner, she was taken to JIPMER Hospital, Puducherry for medical intervention.  It was diagnosed that she was suffering from psychosis.  The Psychiatrist informed that, if the child was allowed to remain with the said woman, she could have killed the child, as she is in acute stage of mental depression.   She is still under psychiatric treatment.

Due to the rescue operation by CB CID team, both the woman and the child have survived and are in the safe hands.  The efforts to trace the address and parentage of both the woman and the child is in progress.
